hey guys, I’ve got a really big prayer request for you guys. this Sunday will be the start of my board exams in order to get licensed as a public accountant, and the national passing rate to become a CPA has always been very low. The national passing rate for the previous batch was around 33%. It’s not uncommon to have a passing rates as low as 20%
I think that in America the process is different from where I’m from; you review by yourself, and then go the testing center when you’re ready (or at least, that’s what I heard). Here in my country, things are a bit different. You have to enroll in a review center and undergo what is usually called a period “integral review” or “review proper.”
in that review center, all six board exam subjects are covered: Management Services, Audit, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Advance Financial Accounting and Reporting, Regulatory Framework for Business Transactions (basically business law), and Taxation. I suck at all of these and struggled with them since day one of college, which is where my prayer request comes in.
please pray not only for me, but for the other student that will be taking the board exam this Sunday. It’s already such a grace for me to not have to worry about being the breadwinner of my family, but unfortunately that’s the circumstance that many of the other takers are facing. please pray that we will have an examination that truly reflects our understanding of the board subjects, and is not merely built to fail as many students as possible.
this is getting super rambly so I’ll cut it short here. if you made it this far (and even if you didn’t lol) please know that I’m always praying for you guys

Studyblr
Tumblr media
Studyblr is a portmanteau of “study” and “Tumblr,” referring to a subcommunity on the microblogging and social networking platform Tumblr that centers around academic motivation, study aesthetics, productivity, and educational self-improvement. It is part of a larger trend of internet-based productivity and self-betterment communities that use social media to share resources, inspiration, and personal progress. The Studyblr movement rose to prominence in the mid-2010s, particularly among high school and college students, and has since evolved into a broader cultural and pedagogical phenomenon. Unlike traditional educational tools or support systems, Studyblr is grassroots and peer-led, combining elements of digital journaling, lifestyle blogging, and academic coaching.
Tumblr media
The Studyblr community emerged organically from Tumblr’s broader user base in the early 2010s. It was initially inspired by the pre-existing aesthetic blogging culture of Tumblr, which was characterized by curated visual content, moodboards, personal diaries, and thematic tagging. As users began sharing photos of their study spaces, handwritten notes, planners, and school routines, a distinct identity coalesced around the tag “#studyblr.”
This emergence coincided with growing global interest in academic competitiveness, mental wellness, and productivity among digital-native students. While the community had no official founding date or centralized leadership, key influencers—users who consistently posted high-quality, original content—helped shape its ethos. Over time, Studyblr expanded beyond static images to include long-form reflections on study strategies, mental health, goal-setting, and the lived experiences of students navigating academic systems.
Tumblr media
Studyblr is perhaps best known for its distinctive visual and textual aesthetics. Content typically revolves around carefully arranged photos of notebooks, stationery, desks, laptops, and textbooks. These images often feature natural lighting, pastel color palettes, and neat handwriting in cursive or block letters. The emphasis on presentation serves both motivational and aspirational functions: it reflects the user’s effort and self-discipline, while also creating an idealized image of productive student life.
Beyond visuals, Studyblr content is deeply text-driven. Posts often include personal essays, daily study logs, motivational affirmations, study tips, productivity challenges, book reviews, and planning systems. Many users integrate bullet journaling and time management methodologies such as the Pomodoro Technique, Eisenhower Matrix, or Getting Things Done (GTD) framework into their content. The aestheticized academic life depicted in Studyblr is often aspirational, yet it can also contain candid reflections on academic burnout, impostor syndrome, and the pressure to perform.
Tumblr media
Studyblr functions as a decentralized, informal learning network. Users share and exchange knowledge across disciplines, offering peer support, explanations, and curated resources. Unlike formal education systems that follow rigid curricula, Studyblr promotes autodidacticism—self-directed learning based on personal interest and need. It is common to find comprehensive guides written by users on how to study specific subjects, prepare for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, or A-Levels, or learn foreign languages.
These peer-led instructional materials often emphasize metacognitive strategies, such as spaced repetition, active recall, mind mapping, and Cornell note-taking. Studyblr can thus be viewed as a space for educational praxis, where learners not only consume knowledge but also critically reflect on how to learn. In this sense, it parallels and intersects with the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement, albeit in a more informal and socially curated manner.
Tumblr media
Studyblr supports a complex and multifaceted set of identities. Users often present themselves as diligent, growth-oriented individuals who are striving to improve their academic lives. However, the community is also interwoven with issues of self-image, performance, and socio-cultural pressures. Many Studyblr participants are women and girls, and there is a strong feminized aesthetic to the community, including a focus on journaling, pastel tones, and emotional self-care.
Despite its empowering potential, Studyblr has been critiqued for perpetuating perfectionism and romanticizing productivity. The aesthetic emphasis can lead to a performative culture where the appearance of studying becomes as important as the actual work done. This dynamic mirrors broader critiques of social media platforms where curated self-presentation can mask internal struggles and contribute to anxiety or imposter syndrome.
Studyblr also functions as a digital safe space for marginalized students, including LGBTQ+ individuals, neurodivergent learners, and those with mental health challenges. The community often provides emotional support, practical advice, and solidarity across identity lines, creating an inclusive environment that is often lacking in traditional academic institutions.
Tumblr media
Tumblr’s platform design—featuring reblogs, tags, and anonymous messaging—facilitates the decentralized and viral nature of Studyblr content. The use of tags like #studyspo (study inspiration), #productivity, and #studentlife allows for rapid content discovery and thematic categorization. Reblogging allows users to build upon others’ posts, adding commentary or visual remixing, thus fostering a participatory culture.
Many Studyblr users extend their presence across platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and, more recently, TikTok. These migrations have contributed to the cross-pollination of related communities like Studygram (on Instagram), Studytwt (on Twitter), and StudyTube (on YouTube). Each of these platforms introduces distinct norms and media affordances, but they share common themes of academic productivity, peer support, and aesthetic curation.
Tumblr media
While not formally recognized by most academic institutions, Studyblr can have measurable educational benefits. Its emphasis on goal-setting, reflective practice, and resource sharing encourages students to engage more deeply with their learning. It can enhance intrinsic motivation and help students develop executive functioning skills such as planning, prioritization, and time management.
However, critics argue that Studyblr may reinforce elitist or exclusionary narratives. The idealized images often feature expensive stationery, minimalist furniture, and uninterrupted time—luxuries not all students can afford. Furthermore, the emphasis on constant productivity may inadvertently glamorize overwork and contribute to toxic hustle culture.
There is also a tendency toward Eurocentric and Anglophone academic norms, which may marginalize students in non-Western contexts. While some Studyblr users challenge these biases by posting in other languages or highlighting alternative educational systems, the dominant aesthetic and rhetorical style remains rooted in Western liberal education ideals.
Tumblr media
A distinctive feature of Studyblr is its intersection with mental health discourse. Many users openly discuss their struggles with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other psychological challenges. This openness creates a dual narrative: one of ambition and productivity, and another of vulnerability and resilience. It also reflects broader generational shifts in attitudes toward mental health, particularly among Gen Z and late Millennials.
Self-care routines, therapy experiences, and coping strategies are frequently discussed alongside study schedules and exam prep. This integration of mental wellness and academic performance represents a holistic approach to student life that stands in contrast to traditional educational discourses that often neglect emotional labor. However, this discourse is not without tension—there is an ongoing debate within the community about whether the focus on aesthetics and high achievement can undercut genuine mental health advocacy.
Tumblr media
Studyblr is more than a niche interest group—it represents a convergence of education, technology, identity, and aesthetics in the digital age. As of the mid-2020s, while Tumblr’s overall user base has declined from its peak, the Studyblr ethos continues to influence newer platforms and educational content creation. The cultural DNA of Studyblr can be seen in online productivity communities, Notion dashboards, digital journaling apps, and even remote learning pedagogies that emphasize autonomy and engagement.
Its legacy lies in reshaping how students view learning—not merely as a path to grades or degrees, but as a personal, expressive, and communal act. Studyblr illustrates how digital communities can serve as sites of both empowerment and critique, offering new possibilities for how we understand motivation, knowledge, and the lived experience of education in a connected world.

At the 2023 Defcon hacker conference in Las Vegas, prominent AI tech companies partnered with algorithmic integrity and transparency groups to sic thousands of attendees on generative AI platforms and find weaknesses in these critical systems. This “red-teaming” exercise, which also had support from the US government, took a step in opening these increasingly influential yet opaque systems to scrutiny. Now, the ethical AI and algorithmic assessment nonprofit Humane Intelligence is taking this model one step further. On Wednesday, the group announced a call for participation with the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, inviting any US resident to participate in the qualifying round of a nationwide red-teaming effort to evaluate AI office productivity software.
The qualifier will take place online and is open to both developers and anyone in the general public as part of NIST's AI challenges, known as Assessing Risks and Impacts of AI, or ARIA. Participants who pass through the qualifying round will take part in an in-person red-teaming event at the end of October at the Conference on Applied Machine Learning in Information Security (CAMLIS) in Virginia. The goal is to expand capabilities for conducting rigorous testing of the security, resilience, and ethics of generative AI technologies.
“The average person utilizing one of these models doesn’t really have the ability to determine whether or not the model is fit for purpose,” says Theo Skeadas, chief of staff at Humane Intelligence. “So we want to democratize the ability to conduct evaluations and make sure everyone using these models can assess for themselves whether or not the model is meeting their needs.”
The final event at CAMLIS will split the participants into a red team trying to attack the AI systems and a blue team working on defense. Participants will use the AI 600-1 profile, part of NIST's AI risk management framework, as a rubric for measuring whether the red team is able to produce outcomes that violate the systems' expected behavior.
“NIST's ARIA is drawing on structured user feedback to understand real-world applications of AI models,” says Humane Intelligence founder Rumman Chowdhury, who is also a contractor in NIST's Office of Emerging Technologies and a member of the US Department of Homeland Security AI safety and security board. “The ARIA team is mostly experts on sociotechnical test and evaluation, and [is] using that background as a way of evolving the field toward rigorous scientific evaluation of generative AI.”
Chowdhury and Skeadas say the NIST partnership is just one of a series of AI red team collaborations that Humane Intelligence will announce in the coming weeks with US government agencies, international governments, and NGOs. The effort aims to make it much more common for the companies and organizations that develop what are now black-box algorithms to offer transparency and accountability through mechanisms like “bias bounty challenges,” where individuals can be rewarded for finding problems and inequities in AI models.
“The community should be broader than programmers,” Skeadas says. “Policymakers, journalists, civil society, and nontechnical people should all be involved in the process of testing and evaluating of these systems. And we need to make sure that less represented groups like individuals who speak minority languages or are from nonmajority cultures and perspectives are able to participate in this process.”

can you compare Buddhism & Christianity? Since you were Buddhist for like 9 years
I can try lol.
• Buddhism directly acknowledges suffering as a core human experience (First Noble Truth) and offers practical, observable methods (the Eightfold Path) to reduce it through mindfulness, ethical living, and mental discipline.
• Christianity often frames suffering as a test or punishment, with the promise of relief only after death, which delays solutions and doesn’t always provide actionable steps for inner peace now.
• Buddhism teaches that you are responsible for your own liberation through conscious action and self-discipline.
• Christianity relies on belief in an external savior for salvation (faith over works), which can encourage passivity and moral licensing (“I’m forgiven anyway”).
• Buddhist practices (mindfulness, meditation, non-attachment) have measurable psychological benefits supported by modern science. You can test the outcomes—less anxiety, clearer thinking, better emotional regulation.
• Christian faith requires belief without proof and often discourages questioning, which limits direct experiential validation.
• Buddhism doesn’t demand exclusivity—you can integrate its teachings without abandoning other beliefs.
• Christianity typically demands exclusive belief and warns against “false teachings,” which can create closed-mindedness and division.
Basicalllllyyyy,
If we measure correctness by practical application, universal relevance, and the ability to reduce suffering here and now, Buddhism demonstrates observable effectiveness without requiring blind faith. Christianity focuses more on future salvation and belief rather than immediate, actionable life improvement.
BUT:
Christianity addresses existential questions like why we exist and who created us. It offers a defined origin and end: creation by God and eternal life.
• Buddhism intentionally leaves questions about origin and afterlife open or irrelevant, which can feel incomplete for those seeking meaning beyond suffering reduction.
• Christianity provides a clear moral framework with divine accountability, which can deter harmful behavior even when no one is watching.
• Buddhism relies heavily on personal responsibility, but without a higher judge, it assumes everyone is intrinsically motivated to do good—which isn’t always the case.
• Christianity offers comfort in suffering by promising that pain has purpose and will be redeemed, which can be deeply consoling in hopeless circumstances.
• Buddhism teaches acceptance of suffering but doesn’t always provide emotional comfort beyond detachment, which can feel cold or dismissive in times of real distress.
• Christianity emphasizes forgiveness through grace—your worth is not based solely on your actions but on divine love.
• Buddhism is more transactional: what you put out is what you get (karma). This can feel unforgiving or harsh for those struggling with past mistakes.
Buddhism excels in practical, present-moment well-being, but Christianity holds validity for those seeking a defined purpose, emotional comfort, and the assurance that they are loved and forgiven beyond their human failings.

A motte-and-bailey argument is one where you make an outlandish argument, then retreat to your more reserved and universal argument when confronted. You say "oh, did I say we should revolt against the rich? obviously what I meant was that they should pay their fair share of taxes". This is a weasel's way of making a point, going from inflammatory to mundane, testing the waters, etc.
But there's a different phenomenon where you don't retreat to the motte, you're just hanging out there as a kind of compromise, a way of moving the needle.
Like you say "hey, I think we should kill all cats" and then since that's hopeless, you say "hey, kill shelters are a reasonable thing" or whatever. And you have not retreated, you still say the same "kill all cats" thing to anyone who will listen.
I think this is an interesting position to be in, especially for extremists.
First, it means that they'll be attacked on the extremist position, and have to repeatedly defend that extremist position, even when they're arguing in favor of some decidedly less extreme policy or course of action. I have to imagine this is kind of exhausting, and derails all kinds of conversations.
Second ... there's some integrity to it, right? They're an extremist, and they're stating their beliefs plainly, and coming to a compromise. I would rather this than people hiding their beliefs as much as they can and trying to weasel their way through discourse.
Third, sometimes their attempts at this "compromise" end up with them making arguments that are well outside the Overton window. The underlying framework for the argument is what's odious, rather than the specific policy being argued for or against. They very logic and facts they're bringing to the table are extreme.
I've seen this a few times now, and I am just fascinated by it.

Does Democracy Have a Chance Or Is This America's Epilogue?
Tumblr media
The fact that Democratic leaders are still clashing over who gets to run where, while the entire system teeters, should tell you everything you need to know: they’re too distracted to prioritize survival. We are watching a slow-motion collapse, and they’re backstage arguing about who deserves top billing in a dying show. The world isn’t just metaphorically burning; it’s openly smoldering on every front—authoritarian power grabs, oligarchic entrenchment, and populist fanatics are tearing down our civic infrastructure. Instead of shoring up defenses, Democrats obsess over which identity group to appease next, as though chanting different verses of “Kumbaya” at each other will somehow hold back the tide.
This is what passes for strategy: endless purity tests, virtue signals, and factional infighting. Ironically, the only consensus they seem to reach is on the need to prove how morally superior they are, as if righteousness alone can stop an actual coup. Meanwhile, those who prefer the world in ashes—authoritarians, demagogues, and billionaires whose wealth has quadrupled—are more than happy to watch the left’s self-immolation. Every progressive ritual that excludes potential allies or demonizes pragmatic solutions only strengthens those who thrive on chaos. Look hard at this pattern: the paralysis, the obsession with optics, the refusal to excise the extremists on the left’s own fringes. It’s a gift to the right’s war machine.
Let’s be blunt: this insistence on ideological purity is killing any real chance at countering the onslaught. The movement has become so terrified of offending its own fringe elements that it stifles legitimate criticism, lets crucial battles go unfought, and alienates both moderates and the millions trapped between two dysfunctional extremes. What’s the result? Resentment from centrists, disillusionment among would-be allies, and a public image of a party too busy with ego contests to mount an effective defense against the very real threat of authoritarian rule. Instead of building a broad, disciplined coalition, Democrats play theater, as if moral posturing alone can halt the steady erosion of democracy.
This isn’t a plea for centrism, nor a capitulation to the status quo. It’s a demand for backbone and disciplined action. Ideals mean nothing if we can’t secure the structural integrity of the system long enough to implement them. There is no point in preaching progressive values while extremists and oligarchs set about dismantling the very framework needed to enact those values. Without a stable foundation, justice is impossible; without a functional government, ideals remain slogans on placards, easily swept away when stronger forces kick down the door.
If the left wants to outmaneuver the extremism consuming our institutions, it must learn to prioritize. It must stop pretending that endless internal rituals of moral one-upmanship lead anywhere but ruin. Dumping the dead weight of performative purity and facing the hard truth—yes, that means telling some factions “no”—is the only way to stand firm. Embrace strategic pragmatism. Form alliances that, while imperfect, get the job done. Focus on immediate existential threats rather than fighting over who’s the purest progressive in the room.
The stakes could not be higher. Our institutions are under siege by forces that thrive on division, and every minute spent in self-indulgent squabbling grants them another inch. Morality without strategy is self-sabotage. If Democrats—and anyone who values an open, stable society—want to survive this era, they need to step off their soapboxes, kick out the elements that corrode cohesion, and line up behind a ruthless pragmatism that prioritizes lasting stability.
Stop performing and start governing. The time for elegant speeches and tribal ceremonies ended long ago. If the left can’t bring itself to mature beyond these theatrics, then it’s simply inviting the collapse that its enemies are counting on. The world needs action, not another round of self-righteous pageantry. It needs leaders who can confront threats head-on, who understand that protecting a future worth having requires getting their hands dirty now. It needs a movement ready to fight fires, not argue over who holds the hose.

Project NEXUS - Rock, Roll and Thomas Light In the not too distant future, the brilliant Dr. Light and Dr Wily, two long time robotics engineers managed to create an easily modular and light framework to create everyday Robots, the Master framework is a humanoid design that was easily customized and modular to allow for neigh infinite possibilities. soon so called Robot Masters became widespread and adopted my most major heavy industrial sectors to create a safer work environment
The first three two prototypes made by Dr. Light were made to test out the highly advance positronic brain and to prove that robots can be integrated into everyday life. The two Masters, Rock and Roll were at first to be made as lab helpers to the two doctors. the kind Dr. Light who saw their developing minds like children soon started to treat them as his own flesh and blood.

INTERVIEW WITH SHIGENOBU MATSUYAMA - PRODUCER ON SILENT HILL THE ARCADE
I had the pleasure of interviewing Matsuyama-san, one of the producers on Silent Hill the Arcade! Here's what he had to say :)
Q - How did the idea for Silent Hill The Arcade come to be?
A - During the arcade boom of the 1990s and the 2000s, a desire was born to combine the unique worldview of the Silent Hill series - which was already a very strong IP console game-wise – with the haunted houses one might find in an amusement part. We wanted something that could provide an easy and pleasurable experience to an extremely varied range of customers… as in, the casual users. This is the idea that brought Silent Hill Arcade (SHA in short) to life. However, since our goal was to create a new kind of experience that could not be replicated anywhere else, we designed a game that could make the most effective use of the 5.1ch surround sound system, which was something that arcade games hadn’t adopted until that point, with a type of cabinet that could be somewhat isolated from the rest of the arcade via the use of curtains.
Q - Roughly how long did development for the game take?
A - At the time, the development cycle of an arcade game was so short it would be unimaginable today. The shortest one was around six months, the longest about one year and a half. I think SHA took us around one year and two months.
Q - What parts of development were most enjoyable for you?
A – Usually, arcade games are tested a certain number of times, both during development and just before launch in each and every country where their release has been scheduled (which, for SHA, meant Japan, the US, the UK, Italy, Spain, France, Hong Kong and Singapore). In order to keep the development budget for SHA as low as possible, however, I personally traveled alone to the US for the market testing, assembled the cabinet all by myself, repaired it when it was out of order, and stood next to it for days on end, pen and paper in my hand, ready to collect the players’ data. Game development, nearly 20 years ago, was very much an analog experience. It was also hard work, but when I look back, I have so many good memories of that time.
Q - Do you remember any kinds of ideas that you and the team wanted to include in the game, but didn’t in the end?
A – I’m sure this will sound obvious, since SHA was based on a pre-existing IP, but since the framework was pretty much already set when it came to characters and plot, we had to be extremely careful not to deviate from it so that we wouldn’t create inconsistencies. Personally, I would have loved to take the story in slightly wilder directions and include new and fresh ideas.
Q - I loved seeing so many locations from Silent Hill 3 and 4 make an appearance in the game! Was the team who worked on those two games involved in making any decisions for Silent Hill The Arcade?
A - We of course personally consulted select staff members of Konami, like for example Producer Yamaoka, with whom I had been acquainted with since before SHA. However, most development teams had a mix of internal and external members that changed pretty fluidly with each and every year, so there was no real collaboration between the various teams.
Q - What level of freedom were you given for creating this original story within the Silent Hill universe? Were you given any specific directives on what you could or could not integrate/use in the story?
A - If I have to express my personal point of view on the matter, however, should you compare the storyline for SHA with the timeline of the other games, you would indeed notice a few minor inconsistencies that we were not able to completely solve. That’s something I still have regrets about.
Q - Tell me about translating a traditional survival horror experience into the rail shooter genre and control style. What kind of considerations did you have to make for this?
A - The biggest challenge was by far to design a game system that could be as simple as possible, and to regulate the level of challenge in a way that felt balanced, because we didn't want to force complicated controls or an exceedingly high difficulty level on the casual arcade players. Moreover, there was another balance we had to strike perfectly: more specifically, the one between the aforementioned "haunted house" element - the one that was unique to SHA, with its sequences of terrifying events - and the thrilling playstyle that a rail shooter should provide to the player.
Q - As a final product, what are your personal thoughts on the game?
A - I think it had a state-of-the-art sound system, that the design of the cabinet, with its creepy-looking curtains, made people want to take a peek inside, and that the rail shooting system was simple and could be enjoyed by virtually everyone. I think we managed to combine these various elements with a one-of-a-kind worldview of Silent Hill in a way that was in my opinion pretty good! Of course, each and every member of the staff did their part, and I thank all of them wholeheartedly.
Q - Are you working on anything currently that you’d like me to mention?
A - Feel free to write whatever you prefer! If anything, I should thank you, since you allowed me to walk down the nostalgia lane and recall memories from almost 20 years ago that had been dimmed down by the passage of time. Thank you very much!

Testing Log, FREYJA-class NHP
Smith-Shimano Corpro
Warn: Class-05 clearance required. Confirm clearance:
*************
**********
. . .
. . .
Welcome. Disabling anti-cognitive memetics.
> Access log. Playback.
. . .
. . .
02/22
Prime subjectivity has been dubbed FREYJA. Dr. ### felt it appropriate. Demonstrates remarkable pre-cognitive abilities, far in excess of ATHENA-class predictive power. Worth further study.
02/24
ExMat now heading FREYJA project as per mgmt orders. New supervisor lacks caution; Drs. ### and ### got into verbal altercations with them.
FREYJA demonstrates a concerningly unstable personality. Has repeatedly requested to be allowed to leave; these requests have been denied.
02/25
Incident involving FREYJA. Several researchers injured following an esape attempt, in which FREYJA attempted to hijack automated security system. Airgaps have been installed to prevent further incident.
03/14
Data from initial round of FREYJA testing has proven bountiful. Dr. ### suggested we combine the findings with existing neural bridging technology and precog engine as installed in Death’s Head line. New mechanized frame has been proposed to house this combined system.
03/15
New frame is to be based on Metalmark line. ExMat suggests additional paracausal elements; cooler heads have prevailed and the engine is to be kept mundane where possible.
03/18
Prototype F-type Metalmark has been constructed and initial tests are undergoing. Power fluctuations make consistent operation of the system incredibly difficult.
03/19
Test pilots complain of nausea, a sense of deja vu after sorties in F-type. Dr. ### has been assigned to investigate.
03/21
FREYJA prime determined to be unfit for chassis integration. Power draw of casket remains in excess of coldcore supply, 154% higher than predicted. ExMat called in specialists for the cloning process; we aim to create a clone more suitable.
04/10
Alpha-line of FREYJA clones in testing. Demonstrate remarkable similarities to prime’s temperament; ExMat concerned by this.
04/25
Beta-line of FREYJA clones in testing. Show promising results.
04/30
Beta-line shows dangerous unshackling risk in excess of safe levels. ExMat pushed to move forward; Dr. ### loudly disagreed. Has been reassigned but opinion has shifted. New line will be tested.
06/24
Lines Gamma and Delta show overly morose personalities. ExMat not satisfied.
Pilots are still reporting increased disorientation and difficulties with mental temporal framework after cockpit time.
08/02
Theta line under testing. ExMat assures us this line shows a temperament suitable for copilot integration.
One unit, however, shows concerning degree of deviation from norm. Corrective measures are to be determined; too much money has been sunk to scuttle prototype.

Programming object lesson of the day:
A couple days ago, one of the side project apps I run (rpthreadtracker.com) went down for no immediately obvious reason. The issue seems to have ended up being that the backend was running on .NET Core 2.2, which the host was no longer supporting, and I had to do a semi-emergency upgrade of all the code to .NET Core 6, a pretty major update that required a lot of syntactic changes and other fixes.
This is, of course, an obvious lesson in keeping an eye on when your code is using a library out of date enough not to be well supported anymore. (I have some thoughts on whether .NET Core 2.2 is old enough to have been dumped like this, but nevertheless I knew it was going out of LTS and could have been more prepared.) But that's all another post.
What really struck me was how valuable it turned out to be that I had already written an integration test suite for this application.
Historically, at basically every job I've worked for and also on most of my side projects, automated testing tends to be the thing most likely to fall by the wayside. When you have 376428648 things you want to do with an application and only a limited number of hours in the day, getting those 376428648 things to work feels very much like the top priority. You test them manually to make sure they work, and think, yeah, I'll get some tests written at some point, if I have time, but this is fine for now.
And to be honest, most of the time it usually is fine! But a robust test suite is one of those things that you don't need... until you suddenly REALLY FUCKING NEED IT.
RPTT is my baby, my longest running side project, the one with the most users, and the one I've put the most work into. So in a fit of side project passion and wanting to Do All The Right Things For Once, I actively wrote a massive amount of tests for it a few years ago. The backend has a full unit test suite that is approaching 100% coverage (which is a dumb metric you shouldn't actually stress about, but again, a post for another day). I also used Postman, an excellently full-featured API client, to write a battery of integration tests which would hit all of the API endpoints in a defined order, storing variables and verifying values as it went to take a mock user all the way through their usage life cycle.
And goddamn was that useful to have now, years later, as I had to fix a metric fuckton of subtle breakage points while porting the app to the updated framework. With one click, I could send the test suite through every endpoint in the backend and get quick feedback on everywhere that it wasn't behaving exactly the way it behaved before the update. And when I was ready to deploy the updated version, I could do so with solid confidence that from the front end's perspective, nothing would be different and everything would slot correctly into place.
I don't say this at all to shame anyone for not prioritizing writing tests - I usually don't, especially on my side projects, and this was a fortuitous outlier. But it was a really good reminder of why tests are a valuable tool in the first place and why they do deserve to be prioritized when it's possible to do so.

REGARDING THE STATE LUTE WAS IN SHORTLY AFTER HER CREATION; SHE WASN’T CONSCIOUS, BUT SHE WAS ALIVE — TECHNICALLY, BRUTALLY. NOT AWAKE OR AWARE, BUT STILL PRESENT. SIMILAR TO A CORPSE IN THE AFTERMATH OF DEATH, PARTS OF HER WOULD TWITCH, CONVULSE, SPASM; PAIN WOULD SPIKE THROUGH HER SYSTEM, THERE WAS NO NEURAL FRAMEWORK YET IN PLACE TO INTERPRET IT. NO INSTINCTS, NO MEMORY, NO VOICE, NO PERSONALITY; JUST RAW NERVE ENDINGS MISFIRING IN A BODY THAT DIDN’T YET UNDERSTAND IT EXISTED,
HER FORMATION WAS NOT INSTANTANEOUS; BUT THE PROJECT WAS RUSHED; IT WASN’T DIVINE SPARK & BREATH, SOFT OR FULL OF LOVE & GLITTER LIKE LILITH & THE REAL EVE — IT WAS DIVINE PROCEDURE [ SURGICAL, MECHANICAL, PROLONGED ] THE SERAPHIM ASSEMBLED HER, LIMB BY LIMB…
[ I DON’T IMPOSE THIS ON ADAM WRITERS, OF COURSE; BUT FOR MY DEFAULT LORE: ] ADAM NEVER GAVE HIS CONSENT. THE SERAPHIM DIDN'T ASK; THEY ASSUMED THEY WOULDN’T GET IT IF THEY HAD. ONE MIDRASHIC INTERPRETATION SUGGESTS THAT GOD FORMED EVE LIMB BY LIMB IN FRONT OF ADAM, & HE WAS SO HORRIFIED BY THE PROCESS, SO DISGUSTED BY THE SIGHT OF IT, THAT HE REJECTED HER OUTRIGHT, EXCLAIMING SHE WAS FULL OF BLOOD & SECRETION. THE SERAPHIM WOULDN’T RISK THAT OUTCOME; THEY CONDUCTED THE PROCEDURE IN SECRET,
IT RESEMBLED FETAL DEVELOPMENT IN REVERSE; A BODY FORMING BEING ASSEMBLED WITHOUT BIOLOGICAL ORDER. HER FORM WAS A MESS OF EXPOSED FLESH, UNFINISHED BONE, RAW NERVES, TWITCHING MUSCLE; LIMBS EXTENDING BEFORE JOINTS COULD MOVE, FLESH CLINGING TO BONE WITHOUT PURPOSE OR BREATH. DIVINE MATTER SEEPED THROUGH THE BANDAGES, ADAM'S BLOOD ( BOTH RED & GOLD ) BINDING TO FLESH THAT WASN’T FULLY FORMED,
THIS IS PART OF THE REASON LUTE IS ABLE TO RIP HER OWN ARM OFF; PART OF IT WAS ADRENALINE, TRIGGERED BY BEING CALLED A FAILURE & FUELED BY RAW HATRED FOR VAGGIE — BUT HER BODY WAS BUILT TO WITHSTAND DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY. PAIN ISN’T A DETERRENT FOR HER THE WAY IT IS FOR OTHERS; NOT WHEN HER EARLIEST SUBCONSCIOUS MEMORIES ARE OF BEING PULLED APART & STITCHED TOGETHER BEFORE SHE EVER TRULY LIVED,
ONCE HER FORM STABILIZED, THE FIRST WAVE OF EXORCISTS WERE MADE & THEY WERE IMMEDIATELY DEPLOYED, WHICH PROVED TO BE A SEVERE MISTAKE. THOUGH LUTE'S BODY WAS STRUCTURALLY COMPLETE, HER MIND REMAINED UNDEVELOPED — UNDEFINED, UNSTABLE & UNFIT FOR DEPLOYMENT; HER CONSCIOUSNESS HAD YET TO FORM.
& AFTER THE FIRST WAVE PROVED UNSTABLE, LUTE WAS RETAINED FOR PSYCHOSPIRITUAL INCUBATION, TO COMPLETE WHAT WAS LEFT UNFINISHED, & TO RECONDITION; SHE WAS PLACED IN A CRYOPOD FOR CONTAINMENT. INTEGRATED WITHIN THE POD WAS A SIMULATION CHAMBER MODELED AFTER EDEN; A CLOSED GENESIS DESIGNED TO TEST HER OBEDIENCE, LOYALTY, & VIABILITY AS A SUPPORT UNIT FOR ADAM. DURING THIS PERIOD, HER ARTIFICIAL NEURAL FRAMEWORK BEGAN TO TAKE SHAPE; SIMULATED INPUTS WERE INTRODUCED INCREMENTALLY: PRESELECTED MEMORIES, LINGUISTIC SCAFFOLDING, INSTINCTUAL DIRECTIVES, & BEHAVIORAL CONDITIONING BASED ON THE SERAPHIM'S INTERPRETATION OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,
HOWEVER, THE INTENDED REFORMATION RESULTED IN IMPRINTED TRAUMA; THE PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT OF HER ARTIFICIAL FALL WAS ENCODED INTO HER CORE BEFORE CONSCIOUSNESS FULLY STABILIZED. SHE DISPLAYED: SPONTANEOUS MOTOR ACTIVITY, UNPROVOKED VITAL FLUCTUATIONS, & EMOTIONAL REACTIONS TO STIMULI SHE HAD NOT YET BEEN TAUGHT. THE SIMULATION WAS EVENTUALLY INITIATED. LUTE WOULD LIVE A FULL ARTIFICIAL LIFETIME AS A REVISED EVE; SHE EXPERIENCED SIN, EXILE, GRIEF, & DEATH. WHAT WAS MEANT AS CONDITIONING BECAME IMPRINTING; THE TRAUMA SHE UNDERWENT WAS ENCODED BEFORE CONSCIOUSNESS FULLY FORMED. WHEN SHE AWAKENED, HER BODY WAS FUNCTIONAL, BUT HER PSYCHE BORE THE AFTEREFFECTS OF SIMULATED GUILD & LOSS. RATHER THAN RESOLVING HER INSTABILITY, THE SIMULATION SEVEREL REPRESSED IT & WHILE LUTE EMERGED BEHAVIORALLY CORRECTED ON THE SURFACE [ OBEDIENT, PRECISE, FUNCTIONAL ] THE UNDERLYING FRACTURES REMAINED INTACT, DEEPENED BY TRAUMATIC IMPRINTING. THIS RECONDITIONED STATE, POLISHED BUT COMPROMISED, BECAME THE TEMPLATE FOR THE SECOND WAVE OF EXORCISTS
